Gaylord Perry

Gaylord Perry, notorious for doctoring baseballs, won 314 games over a 22-year career starting with eight teams on his way to being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991.

A five-time All-Star, he was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in each league (1972 with Cleveland and 1978 with San Diego). He also, along with his brother Jim, is the second-winningest brother combination in baseball history - second only to the knuckleballing Niekro brothers.

His most interesting and debated story came in 1963 when discussing his hitting ability. He joked, "They'll put a man on the moon before I hit a home run." Other variants on the story say that someone else said it about him, but either way, on July 20, 1969, just MINUTES after the Apollo 11 spacecraft carrying Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon, Perry hit the first home run of his career.
